Recruitment Process

As part of your application, you may be asked to complete a brief online assessment. It all depends on the role you apply for. Once you’ve applied for a role, we’ll send you an email to let you know we’ve received your application. The Screwfix Recruitment team will then work with the hiring manager to assess your suitability.

The next stage involves either a telephone interview or an interview with the line manager and people within the team you’ve applied to join. We’ve created some hints and tips (below) to help you prepare for your interview. We may also ask you to take some technical, professional or psychometric tests to assess your knowledge, skills and experience.

If you’re successful at this stage, we’ll give you a call to let you know. If you haven't been successful, you’ll be informed and given the opportunity to receive feedback. Unfortunately, owing to the number of applications we receive, we cannot offer feedback to candidates who don't make it to the interview stage.

Hints and tips

It’s important to us that you get the most out of your interview and we’re all able to make an informed decision about what happens next. So, as well as showing us the real ‘you’, please:

  • Do some research to get a real feel for our organisation, culture and the work of the team you want to join
  • Read the job description thoroughly
  • Answer competency based questions by giving examples of when you’ve demonstrated a particular skill or displayed a certain value or behaviour
  • Try and trial your interview answers with a friend
  • Be on time – leave plenty of time to get there
  • Be yourself – be honest, open and sell yourself
  • Build rapport – make eye contact
  • Prepare any questions you’d like to ask in advance
